A fax cover sheet is the first page of your transmission. Its job is to make sure the fax reaches the right person, gets read in context, and arrives complete. A few fields do most of that work:
- Recipient details —the name, company, and fax number so a busy front desk can route the pages to the right person or department instead of leaving them on the machine.
- Sender details —your name, company, and a fax or phone number so the recipient can confirm receipt or reach you if something is missing.
- Date —a timestamp for the recipient’s records and yours, which matters when a deadline is involved.
- Page count —the single most useful field. Fax transmissions can drop pages, so stating the total (including the cover) lets the recipient immediately see whether the whole document came through.
- Subject and message —a short line of context so the fax is understood and actioned rather than set aside.
