How Equinox Cancellation Works

Equinox has long been a written-notice membership. Historically members had to give 45 days' written notice, and cancellations were tightly controlled. That changed after a May 2025 settlement with the New York Attorney General: Equinox now accepts cancellation by email at concierge@equinox.com and through its online member portal, and a common structure is a 30-day notice once you have completed your initial 12-month commitment.

Notice periods and available methods can still vary by state and by the terms of your individual Membership Agreement, so confirm the exact requirement for your membership. During the notice period you should expect to be billed for at least one more cycle, and sometimes a prorated amount, before your account closes.

Fax is not one of Equinox’s stated cancellation channels — its documented options are email, the online portal, in-club, and certified mail to its Membership Services address at 31 Hudson Yards, New York, NY 10001. Sending your signed cancellation letter by fax creates a dated written record and a transmission receipt you can keep as proof, but it does not replace notifying Equinox through an official channel. Use both and retain confirmation of every step.

Equinox Cancellation FAQ

Yes. Following the May 2025 New York Attorney General settlement, Equinox accepts cancellation by email at concierge@equinox.com and through its online member portal, so you no longer have to cancel in person. Notice-period rules still apply, so cancel as early as you can and save the confirmation.

Equinox historically required 45 days' written notice. After its 2025 settlement, a common structure is a 30-day written notice once you have completed your initial 12-month commitment, though requirements can vary by state and by your Membership Agreement. Check your specific contract for the exact notice period.

Usually yes. Because Equinox requires advance notice, you will typically be billed for at least one more cycle — and sometimes a prorated amount — during the notice period before your membership officially ends. Keep records of when you submitted notice so you can dispute any charges beyond that.

For a certified-mail cancellation, members have used Equinox, Attn: Membership Services, 31 Hudson Yards, New York, NY 10001. Sending a certified letter with return receipt to this address gives you legal proof of your notice date. Confirm the correct address for your membership in your agreement or with your home club.

Equinox does not list fax as an official cancellation method — its stated channels are email, the online portal, in-club, and certified mail. A faxed letter is still useful as documentation: it delivers your signed request and produces a dated transmission receipt. Send your cancellation through an official Equinox channel as well, and keep the fax receipt as backup proof.

No. Once you have met your commitment period, you can cancel with the required written notice and no explanation is needed. A short, professional cancellation letter stating your name, membership details, and request to cancel is enough.
