New York State DOL Fax Numbers
New York's Department of Labor accepts unemployment insurance documents by fax, but two official pages on dol.ny.gov currently list different fax numbers. Here are both official numbers, the mailing address, and how to confirm the right destination on your own determination notice before you send.

What New York State DOL publishes
The New York State Department of Labor publishes a general Unemployment Insurance fax number for sending documents and correspondence — but two official dol.ny.gov pages currently list different numbers (518-457-9492 and 518-457-9378). Because of that conflict, and because NY DOL says it does not confirm receipt of a fax, we show both official numbers and recommend confirming the number on your determination notice before sending.

dol.ny.gov's Unemployment Insurance Contact page lists 518-457-9492, while NY DOL's "Contact Information for Customers" (P813) lists 518-457-9378. Both are official; confirm the correct number on your determination/notice before faxing. NY DOL says to write your Social Security number in the top right corner of every page and to save your fax confirmation, because it does not confirm receipt of a fax.
Because we could not resolve which published number is current, we do not auto-fill it here. Confirm the correct number against the notice you received, then upload your PDF and enter that number on the XenFax homepage to send it for $1.99.
How to confirm the right fax number
- Look at the determination or notice NY DOL sent you — if it lists a fax number or return address for your specific issue, that is the authoritative destination.
- If your notice does not give a number, use the fax number on dol.ny.gov and confirm which of the two published numbers (518-457-9492 or 518-457-9378) applies by asking the Telephone Claims Center at 888-209-8124.
- Prefer NY DOL's secure messaging through your NY.gov account when you can — it is trackable, and NY DOL says it does not confirm fax receipt.
- Write your Social Security number in the top right corner of every faxed page, as NY DOL instructs, and include a cover sheet describing what you are sending.
- Save your fax confirmation sheet (or use certified mail) as your only proof of the date and time you sent the documents.

Does New York unemployment have a fax number?
Yes — unlike some states, the New York State Department of Labor (NYS DOL) does publish a fax number for sending unemployment insurance (UI) documents and written correspondence. It appears alongside the mailing address (P.O. Box 15130, Albany, NY 12212-5130) and the Telephone Claims Center number on dol.ny.gov. NY DOL asks you to write your Social Security number in the top right corner of every page, and to save your fax confirmation sheet — because the department states plainly that it does not confirm receipt of a fax or written correspondence.
There is an important honesty caveat. As of our last check, two official NY DOL pages list different fax numbers: the Unemployment Insurance Contact page shows 518-457-9492, while NY DOL's "Contact Information for Customers" (form P813) shows 518-457-9378. Both are on dol.ny.gov and both describe the same general UI-correspondence purpose. Because we cannot resolve which is current from the outside, we show both and strongly recommend you confirm the correct number against your own determination or notice — or with the Telephone Claims Center — before faxing anything sensitive.
The channel NY DOL actually prefers
NY DOL's preferred way to send documents is not fax at all — it is secure messaging through your NY.gov account. After you sign in at dol.ny.gov, the envelope icon on your My Online Services page lets you send a secure message and attach documents, and unlike fax it keeps a record inside your account. NY DOL uses the same online system for many appeal and reconsideration requests. Because NY DOL says it does not confirm fax receipt, secure messaging (or certified mail) gives you stronger proof that your documents arrived.
If you do fax, treat your fax confirmation page as your only receipt: keep it, note the date and time, and follow up through your NY.gov account or the Telephone Claims Center (888-209-8124) if you do not see the issue resolved. Never rely on a fax number you found on a directory or forum site — use the number from dol.ny.gov or, better, the one printed on the notice you are responding to.
Appeals and hearings: the 30-day deadline
If you disagree with a determination that denies or reduces your benefits, you can request a hearing before an Administrative Law Judge. Your request must be made — online or postmarked — no later than 30 days from the date of the determination you disagree with. The fastest route is through your NY.gov account: open the envelope icon, and choose "Hearings and Appeals" as the subject. NY DOL also lists a separate mailing box for hearing requests (P.O. Box 15131, Albany, NY 12212-5131), distinct from the general UI correspondence box.
Because the 30-day window is firm, keep proof of when you filed. If you request the hearing online, save the confirmation; if you mail it, certified mail (return receipt requested) gives you a court-quality record of the date. As always, requesting a hearing does not by itself change the determination — an Administrative Law Judge decides the appeal on its merits.
What to include when you fax New York State DOL
- A cover sheet stating what you are submitting and the determination or claim it relates to
- Your Social Security number in the top right corner of every page (NY DOL requires this on faxed pages)
- Your name exactly as it appears on your claim and a daytime phone number
- Only the pages the notice asks for, plus the total page count
- For a hearing request: a clear statement that you are requesting a hearing and the determination date you disagree with
- Your fax confirmation page kept as proof of the submission date, since NY DOL does not confirm receipt
Faxing benefits documents safely
New York State DOL documents carry your Social Security number, claim ID, and sometimes medical information. Fax only to a number printed on your official notice or published on dol.ny.gov, send only the pages requested, and keep your transmission confirmation as proof of the date. Faxing delivers your document — it does not by itself decide your claim or appeal.
New York State DOL fax FAQ
What is the New York unemployment fax number?
The NYS Department of Labor publishes a fax number for unemployment insurance documents on dol.ny.gov, but two official pages currently list different numbers: 518-457-9492 (Unemployment Insurance Contact page) and 518-457-9378 (Contact Information for Customers, P813). Both are official. Confirm which applies to your notice — or ask the Telephone Claims Center at 888-209-8124 — before you fax, and write your SSN in the top right corner of every page.
Why do two NY DOL pages show different fax numbers?
We found 518-457-9492 on dol.ny.gov's Unemployment Insurance Contact page and 518-457-9378 on NY DOL's Contact Information for Customers (P813). We cannot tell from the outside which is the most current, so rather than guess we show both and recommend confirming against your own determination notice or with the Telephone Claims Center (888-209-8124). Accuracy matters more here than picking one.
Does NY DOL confirm that it received my fax?
No. NY DOL states that it does not confirm receipt of a fax or written correspondence, and it tells you to save your fax confirmation sheet as your proof. For a stronger record, use secure messaging through your NY.gov account, or send by certified mail with return receipt.
How do I appeal a New York unemployment determination?
Request a hearing within 30 days of the date on the determination. The fastest way is through your NY.gov account — open the envelope icon and choose "Hearings and Appeals." NY DOL also lists a mailing box for hearing requests: New York State Department of Labor, P.O. Box 15131, Albany, NY 12212-5131. Keep proof of the date you filed, because the 30-day deadline is firm.
What is the best way to send documents to NY unemployment?
NY DOL prefers secure messaging through your NY.gov account, where you can attach documents and keep a record. Fax and mail (P.O. Box 15130, Albany, NY 12212-5130) are alternatives, but because NY DOL does not confirm fax receipt, secure messaging or certified mail gives you better proof that your documents arrived.
Will faxing my documents get my unemployment claim approved faster?
Faxing only delivers your documents; it does not decide your claim or guarantee approval. NY DOL still reviews eligibility on the merits. Sending the right documents to the right destination by the deadline — and keeping proof — is what protects your claim, not the delivery method itself.
Other state agency fax guides
XenFax is an independent online fax service and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting on behalf of any state agency, including the California EDD, the New York State Department of Labor, or the Texas Workforce Commission. Agency names are used only to describe where your documents are going. State agencies change fax numbers, addresses, and procedures, and the correct destination for your case is often printed on your own notice — always confirm the number against the official source linked on this page (or the notice you received) before sending. Faxing a document does not by itself guarantee that a claim, appeal, or request will be approved or processed by any agency.
